Car Tyre Friction Force Calculator and Comparator

Input "TREADWEAR" number:

Input tyre width (mm):

  vs

Input the pressure recommended by the manufacturer (bar):

Total Friction Force (kgf):

*A lower "TREADWEAR" rating provides a
shorter braking distance and a shorter lifetime.

*The friction force does not refer to ADHERENCE!
The adherence is composed of the friction force + the force given by the tyre's elasticity and profile!

Contact surface length per tyre (4 tyres) (mm):
  vs

Contact surface width per tyre(mm):
  vs

Maximum contact surface per tyre (4 tyres) (mm2):
  vs

*These are static values.
*The mass distribution per tyre is considered 25%.
*MAXIMUM surface because this is a purely theoretical value.
*For tyres of different sizes but with the same properties and in the same environmental conditions:
The contact surface between tyres and asphalt is the same for the same masses and pressures regardless of the width or diameter of the tyres.
The width and length of the rectangle of the contact surface differ depending on tyres' width and mass.
The contact surface offers higher adhesion in the direction of the long side than in the direction of the short side.
This explains why wider tyres offer greater grip in turns and narrower ones offer more effective traction and braking.
